Warblitz helped Shiftcycle in to the repair bay quietly. He looked around and let out a soft sigh of relief when he saw no one was around.
“Ratchet and Wheeljack must be workin’ on somethin’ else. Up ya go Shift.”
He helped Shiftcycle onto a table and looked at the fresh laser burn on Shiftcycle’s chest. He looked at it thoughtfully before glancing at the door.
“I should be able to fix this before they get back.”
“Thank you, Warblitz.”
Warblitz waved a hand and begun digging for the tools he’d need to removed the burn. He pulled out different grades of sandpaper and some wax.
“This should do the trick. Now try to hold still.”
Shiftcycle sat still for the 15 minutes it tool Warblitz to remove the burn.  Warblitz smiled faintly, as Shiftcycle looked at Warblitz’s work.
“Not bad if I don’t say so myself.”
Shiftcycle gave Warblitz one of his rare unreserved smiles.
“I bet Sideswipe will be surprised when he sees this.”
Warblitz put away the sandpaper and wax with a chuckle.
“He’ll probably stare at you till his brother says something. I wonder how he got the door to explode like that.”
Shiftcycle shrugged.
“I have no idea, we’d better leave before Ratchet and Wheeljack get back though.”
Warblitz checked the hallway before waving all clear to Shiftcycle. They crept out of the repair bay and bolted for the exit. They transformed before anyone noticed them and took off toward a bit of flat land 20 miles from the base.
The people who lived in the town near their destination were used to the 1988 Buick Century and the 2006 Pontiac G6 by now and waved to them friendly. Warblitz honked a friendly hello as they passed a school bus. Shiftcycle just flashed his lights in a quieter version of Warblitz hello. A few miles from the town they pulled off the road and transformed. Warblitz flopped down on the grass to look at the sky. Shiftcycle sat down cross-legged next to him. Warblitz’s optics seemed to flicker as the clouds drifted by.
“Hey, Shift.”
“Yes?”
“What do you think Diesel got reincarnated as?”
Shiftcycle though hard and Warblitz didn’t press him. Warblitz was one of the only bots’ that’d talk to Shiftcycle about his religion. Diesel had explained the basic concepts of it before she had died, so he had a lose grip on what Shiftcycle believed in. Finally Shiftcycle shook his head.
“I-I’m not sure.”
He pause and grazed at the sky in thought.
“But, from what you tell me about her. I think she’s better off this time. She worked hard to do good in this world, even if she had to do bad also. The god’s surely must have seen her trying and given her a kinder fate in her next life.”
Warblitz smiled sadly.
“I hope so.”
Shiftcycle leaned back on his elbows.
“So, how should we get back at the twins?”
“I don’t know, but more importantly how are we gonna live though Ratchet once he finds out that we were in his repair bay?”
Warblitz groaned and Shiftcycle laughed.
“I forgot about that. Maybe he won’t notice,”
Warblitz shrugged.
“I did put everything back as close as I could. We may get lucky.”
They laid quietly for a few hours, just enjoying the fact that they had someone ‘on their side’. Finally Warblitz got up.
“We better head back.”
Shiftcycle nodded and transformed.
“First one back has to walk b the repair bay first!”
Shiftcycle took off leaving a cloud of dust.
“Hey! No fair Shift!”
Warblitz transformed and raced after him. Shiftcycle lost, but only by a few seconds. Shiftcycle walked by the repair bay quietly waiting for the explosion within. When nothing happened Warblitz crept by and smiled.
“That wasn’t so bad.”
Suddenly Ratchet run to the hallway and grabbed Shiftcycle, Wheeljack grabbed Warblitz and dragged him in as well. They stood there looking sheepish for a minute before Warblitz noticed a strange pink transformer behind Ratchet. It took him a few moments to realize it was a very sullen, very pink Sunstreaker, now Warblitz knew why Shiftcycle hadn’t been forth coming with ideas for revenge. Warblitz bit back a snicker and Shiftcycle kept a blank face.
“Is there something you need from us, Ratchet?”
Ratchet pointed a wrench at Shiftcycle menacingly.
“I know that you are more mature then this, but Sunstreaker swears that the two of you are behind this.”
Warblitz held up his hands to protest his innocence.
“I had nothing to do with that.”
Shiftcycle nodded but didn’t say anything else. Wheeljack looked at Warblitz skeptically. On one hand Warblitz had mellowed out when Diesel died, on the other hand Shiftcycle seemed to be able to single handedly bring out the old Warblitz with just a few words. It was a good thing that Warblitz wasn’t trying to die every time they went to fight the Decepticons, but Warblitz’s wicked humor was something many hadn’t missed.
“Anyway, I would have picked hot pink, that shade is way to light.”
Shiftcycle smiled.
“Really I though it fit nicely for someone so vain.”
Ratchet and Sunstreaker went for the nearest tool and Wheeljack ducked up a nearby table. Warblitz held up a hand weakly.
“Now, guy no need to get violent…”
Shiftcycle look horrified for a moment.
“To late for talk I think, Warblitz.”
They ran for the door as a wrench and a hammer flew through the air at them. They scrambled out into the hall and ran for any cover they could find as Ratchet and Sunstreaker chased them yelling about how long it’d take to remove the pink paint. Warblitz stared a Shiftcycle for a moment.
“How did you do it?”
Shiftcycle smiled again.
“I put a pink tint in his wax.”
“But that means all he has to do is remove the wax to get rid of the pink.”
Shiftcycle nodded and ducked as another tool was hurled at them.
“So, wanna place bets on how long it’ll take him to figure it out?”
